It is part of a healthy personality to occupy a space that is ours alone. This is the space that allows us to grow and unfold without interference by anyone, be it our parents or other persons who assume authority over us. This space exists inside us, and also has its correspondence in an outer space, large or small. The focus in this seminar is on our inner, psychic space. It is there that we find access to our inner truth — that inner well of accumulated wisdom that the I Ching calls a “clear cold spring” from which we can drink, and which nourishes our whole being. We are born with the ability to say “No” when someone intrudes into the space over which we alone are sovereign.
Unfortunately, that sovereignty is taken away from us at a very early age when we are told that what we feel is “only subjective,” or that “we have no right over ourselves,” or if we assume this right we are giving way to the “evil inherent in our nature.” These statements often come from parents who believe these things, and who keep a close watch to prevent any exercise of our sovereignty. They do this in the belief that they are doing it “for our own good.” Our ability to say “No” to what does not resonate with our inner truth is thus taken away from us, and in the process, we lose our boundaries. The I Ching shows us that we can re-establish our boundaries by learning to say an inner No in such a way that it does not arouse the ego in others, while simultaneously engaging Cosmic help.
Boundary issues play a vital role in all relationships, including the relationship we have with ourselves. Success in business, as well as in many situations involving our survival is often a matter of having our boundaries intact. A lack of boundaries is the source of big fears, such as the fear of being engulfed by others, the fear of losing ourselves, the fear of being taken advantage of, and the fear of not being able to live our lives fully. A lack of boundaries also acts as a magnet that draws the very things we are afraid of.
The participants will investigate the most important causes of their boundary issues with the goal to free themselves from these obstructions.
